Raza Khan releases Blue Lounge, a track equated to a club in the forest
(PR) Since his 2009 debut Painted Diaries, Bangladesh-born, New York–based guitarist and composer Reza Khan has written conceptually, enlisting heavy hitters from world music and Contemporary Jazz to weave lush musical storylines. His new album, Shadow Dancers, incorporates material developed over years and reshaped in a more personal context. Shadow Dancers is themed after the nocturnal.
For Khan, night represents “peace, tranquility, quietness,” a perspective shaped by his upbringing in Bangladesh, where the full moon carries a romantic meaning rather than more foreboding Western connotations. “It’s a lover’s night.” He describes the music as moving freely between contemporary jazz, fusion, and global traditions, without being tied to a single genre.
The album’s lead single “Blue Lounge” imagines a club set deep in a forest, “blue lights everywhere," and dancers filling the space. With Jeff Kashiwa on lead sax and Brendan Rothwell throwing down to foundation on bass, “Blue Lounge” has all the elements of a Smooth/Contemporary Jazz radio hit!
